Isolation: Divide and Conquer: (Gen.3:11) "He (satan by himself) said to the woman (Eve by herself)
Unity: Pluralism: (Gen. 2:26) "Let Us (the Godhead) make man in Our (Godhead) image."
Luke 8:29 " … he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demons into solitary places.
Satan wants us isolated and individualistic and eating from the tree of knowledge to decide for ourselves what is best for us as individuals. In his realm, there is no such thing as oneness and group expression.
Mark 5:19 "Jesus did not let him, but said, 'Go home to your family and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how He has had mercy on you.'."
When Jesus healed the demoniac, He told him to go back, from isolation to inclusion, to his family. The demoniac wanted to go on and follow Jesus but was instructed to walk out his new found freedom by submitting to the family environment that for so many years he had isolated himself from.
Isolation takes on many forms. I can be isolated in a crowd. I can be isolated in the Church Body. I can act independantly with Church "palsy".
Luke 8:28 " … What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the most High God?"
The demoniac knew Jesus yet was held captive in isolation. I can know Jesus but still be in bondage to my own independent and isolated thinking and participation.
Luke 8:35 " … dressed in his right mind."
What was the demoniac held captive to? His mind was held captive by a "legion" of thought by demons that drove him into isolation. It is the busyness of the soul that plagues the mind with so many things to do and accomplish that drives me from others. It is totally self-centered. There are many contradicting and confusing thoughts about my own personal responsibilities and self interests, etc.
Isolation, then, is a place; a place of death in the tombs. If it is therefore a place, then in the spirit it is a principalitity. In a principality, there are many subjects just like the demoniac had legions of demons residing in him. The demons begged Jesus to send them into a herd (many) of pigs and not cast them out alone. Even demons like company!
Ephesians 6:11,12 "Put on the full armour of God so that you (plural/the Church) can take your stand against the devil's schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities …"
As we have learned, it takes the corporate, plural Body to deal with principalities in the spirit realm. Not one person can stand alone and expect to deal with a "spirit of isolation" because it is the primary tactic of satan himself! He knows there is no power that he cannot resist when confronted by an isolationist. However, when confronted by the Church, he must yield to her collective power!
Bonded
On the brink of despair I stand alone,
Resisting temptations all on my own;
A self-made man I claim to be,
Drawing life from the evil tree.
Caught in a web of confusing thoughts,
Not fully aware of Him Whom I sought;
Entwined in futile concepts and thinking,
Not realizing into the pit I'm sinking.
As the one in the tombs, Legion his name,
Confused and bewildered until the Lord came;
Released and delivered no longer to roam,
Told to return to friends, family, and home.
Don't look to yourself and expect to survive,
When there are others who stand by your side;
Take the hands that touch you on your right and left,
For He's put them there to hold without regret.
Never again to stand alone,
In His Bride you'll find your home;
Bound to others, you'll begin to see,
The fullness of Life from His living tree!
