02/19/2003 Entry: "Volume 11 - Why is God So Strong? by Milt Rodriguez"
Have you ever wondered: why is God so strong? This may seem like a silly question to you. Or, perhaps, you have never even considered it. The answer may seem obvious; God is strong because He is God! Of course, this is true, but why?
Please let me make myself clear. I am not trying to analyze or understand God intellectually. This article is not a theological treatise. In fact, I have honestly never even given this a thought. It's something that just came to me unexpectantly.
Shadows
I believe that many things that are true in the physical, natural world, are reflections or shadows of the Lord Himself. For example, if you look at physical light you can see many insights into your Lord Who Himself is Light. The same is true of the strength of the Lord. If you look at the physical world, you will see that the substances or elements which are the strongest are those that have the most dense molecular structure. The tighter or closer the molecules, the stronger the substance. Rock is very hard because the molecules are extremely close together with very little space in between them. Isn't He called the "Rock" of our salvation?
I'm part of a group of believers in Santa Rosa, California. There was one time when we had a gathering that centered around the fact that the Lord is water. That is, we sought Him during a two week period prior to the meeting in order to gain insight into the statement that He is the Living Water. It was a beautiful time together! One of the sisters shared about the fact that water is so soft and fluid and yet it is so strong that it can support a battleship! The reason is that the water molecules are so tight that they are inseparable! That is the strength of water.
Oneness
Then I thought about the Godhead. Within the One God, there are three Persons, or you could say "molecules". These Three are so close, so tight, so intertwined, that they are one. This oneness is the strength of the Lord. Go is so strong because He is one! Oneness is completely different from singleness. God is one, He is not singular! He is not an individual! Oneness means plural yet one. God is Oneness!
Sisters and brothers; I tell you that this oneness is the underlying theme of the universe! This oneness is what it's all about! God's whole purpose is to bring oneness. This is why the Son came to earth. The Lord Jesus is the epitome of oneness. He brought God and Man together into one body and made them one!
The Oneness of the Body
Now you and I both know that we are one. You are one with your Lord and you are one with your brothers and sisters. The Head and Body are one. Don't think of it as the Head . . . And then the Body. The whole Man is Christ! The whole Person is Christ. Paul said it this way: "Just as the body has many members and yet is one body … SO ALSO IS CHRIST!" Don't you see? The Head and the Body together are Christ! The Church is one with her Lord!
Practical Expression
I think we could all agree that we are one. The question is; why don't we see this oneness in our everyday practical experience? To answer this, we need to go back into God Himself.
The three Persons of the Godhead are one, but why? They are not just one in theory and belief, but They are also one in practical reality. They are one in this way because of Their lifestyle! It's because of the way They are for each other. How is that? It's quite simple actually. Each One is only there for the other One. Huh? The Father only exists for the Son and the Son only exists for the Father. The Father gives all of Himself to the Son. You see, oneness comes by the laying down of a life. A brother pointed out to me recently that there are no "Superstars" in the Godhead! There is (for lack of a better term) only a "team". All members totally give of themselves without hesitation or reservation. There is no ego involved . . . only giving . . . Only Life!
Of course, you realize that we cannot fabricate oneness. Remember the Tower of Babel? That was a pseudo oneness achieved by man's natural ability. That Tower was good for nothing! Oneness can only come from God because He is Oneness! So you see that the practical expression of oneness can only come when there is a genuine laying down of one life for another. Only the Lord can do that! |
