  What's with Paul and Women?:
Unlocking the Cultural Background to 1 Timothy 2
by Jon Zens

This book was actually an answer to prayer for me personally because of some incidences I have run into in my recent past. Most of you know that I work together with other brothers in a ministry to plant what we call "organic churches" throughout this country and abroad. In the last few years I have encountered many believers and several groups who feel that women should be silent in the church meetings.

Of course, there have been some groups (denominations really) who have historically taken this stance. But, for some reason, I kept running into some of them! In one particular group situation I was confronted with this directly and I had no idea how to answer it. Oh, I did mention that these statements made by Paul didn't seem to fit into his general idea of the church as the body of Christ. But I didn't have the historical and sociological information to adequately answer these folks.

But I must say that with this new book by Jon Zens, I have the clarity and understanding to give anyone an answer to this issue. Thanks, Jon!

Jon does a wonderful job of tackling this sticky subject with the tact and craftsmanship of the true Bible scholar and theologian that befits him. But what I like the most is that his explanations and descriptions are made so simple and easy to understand. I really need that! Since I am neither a scholar nor an intellectual I really appreciate the approach.

In short, the book is a quick and easy read on a topic where there is much confusion, misunderstanding, and controversy. I definitely suggest this very useful addition to any library to both individuals and churches.
