  Jesus Manifesto:
Restoring the Supremacy and Sovereignty of Jesus Christ
by Leonard Sweet & Frank Viola

This book, in my opinion, has been begging to be written for many years. Not since such authors as T. Austin-Sparks, Watchman Nee, Major Ian Thomas, and Devern Fromke has there been such a book on the centrality and supremacy of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is truly refreshing!

The first three chapters are nothing short of being both beautiful and absolutely glorious. The authors quite skillfully dissect our modern day dilemma. We are focused on everything else except Jesus Christ! Then they proceed to show us how Christ is the "Occupation" of all things. He is the occupation of both the Old and New Testaments. He is the Center of God's plan. He is the Center of Paul's ministry and the fulcrum of the Father's universe.

Then in chapter three the authors write your biography as a believer in Christ. But it is written from a particular viewpoint: the perspective of the Father! If God the Father were to write your biography, what would it say? Paraphrasing scripture, the authors tell the story from the Father's perspective and in the Father's voice. Awesome!

The next four chapters of the book take us on a journey to show us who Jesus Christ is not. This section of the book depicts the man-made religious ideas that we have picked up about Jesus. Imitating Christ or being Christ-like, approaching God theologically and intellectually instead of spiritually, the focus on human needs and seeing Jesus as a social and political activist are all depicted.

Then the last four chapters take us home to our final destination. On the way we are shown that Jesus was not able to live the "Christian life," but instead lived by the life of his indwelling Father. We see that this divine life has an expression on this earth called the church and that Christ is the one new man which includes both the Head and the body. And finally, the last chapter answers the questions posed at the beginning of the book: "who do you say that I am?"

This book is destined to be a classic of Christian literature and every true believer should read it!
