  The Gate Seldom Found
by Raymond Reid

This book is historical fiction about a group of believers in Ontario Canada in the 19th century who stepped outside of the organized religious system to find their first century roots. It's based upon the author's own stories that were told to him by his grandparents who were actually involved in the movement.

This book actually touched me in quite a profound way. The story begins with a farmer by the name of Alistair who begins to question his own relationship to God when a close friend dies. He also questions the church that he attends and the whole organized church system along with it!

He invites some of his closest friends to begin meeting in a simple way with his family in their home on the farm. A few couples meet together and then it grows from there. One of the beautiful things about this book is how these people discover the centrality of Jesus Christ for themselves in a very simple way. Some of the country expressions of this are exceptional.

The story progresses onward to the point that some of the saints in this little group feel called to go out from the group and begin new churches in other places. They travel together in pairs and the first century parallels are remarkable.

This is a good book and I would recommend it to any saint who is looking to return to a primitive, first century style faith and expression of church life.
