The Will of God
Christians nowadays seem to be very mixed up when it comes to knowing the “will of God for their lives”. So many are really concerned about this, yet, usually have no idea whatsoever what the will of God is concerning them. So let me ask you, dear believer, just what IS the will of God for your life?
Where does God want you to live? Where does God want you to work? Should you marry? Should you have children? If so, how many? Which church should you attend? What is the will of God for your life?
These are questions that Christians are constantly asking themselves, other believers, pastors, counselors, and, of course, God. “Just what exactly does God want me to do with my life?” Do you ever hear yourself asking these types of questions? The questions are a symptom of a problem. The reason we ask these types of questions is that we have a gross missunderstanding of God and His eternal purpose. God really only has ONE purpose for all of us. Yet we have no idea what that is. This is why we are continually gropping about in the dark about our destiny and purpose.
The one main intent of God determines all of these details.
If you don’t understand His intention, then you will not know how to apply the questions. They really all have a very simple answer once you know the main intention. God works out everything according the counsel of His own will (plan and purpose). This is not a mystery if you have eyes to see and ears to hear.
Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. God created man in His image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” Genesis 1: 26,27
We can see God’s will (purpose) explained in this passage. He wants an image. He uses plural pronouns when speaking of this image. He says “Us” and “Our” in referring to Himself. This is because He is a corporate God who wants a corporate image. He is NOT like we think He is!
HE IS NOT AN INDIVIDUAL!
He is a fellowship of Three Persons Who are One!
When He creates man, He creates him to be corporate just like He is. He creates man as male and female. He creates a them. This is because this corporate God wants an expression of Himself. He wants His lifestyle of love and oneness to be expressed visibly in the physical world.
He wants an image. A corporate God wants a corporate image.
He also wants a counterpart, a helpmeet, a bride for Himself. We can see this in Genesis when He creates Adam and Eve. Eve is taken out of the side of Adam and then the two become one flesh. In Ephesians 5 Paul tells us that this is a picture of Christ and the Church. This is the great mystery. This is God’s eternal purpose and will.
So, in light of this, what is God’s will for your life? The answer is simple: to conform you to this image! Everything that God does in your life is towards that one goal; having a corporate image through which He can express Himself.
“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined tp become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; and these whom He predestined, He also called, He also justified; and these whom He also justified, He also glorified.”
This is the Father’s will; to have many sons and many brothers for His firstborn Son. To have His image. Are we cooperating with Him in this great goal? Are we allowing Him to transform us into this same image?
It’s really not about your life at all. It’s about His life and the expression of His Son!
